Win! Victoria is now a Blue Community!

As the clock turned past midnight on June 23rd, Victoria became only the second community in Canada to be presented with a Blue Community certificate. Thanks to all of you who wrote and called in favour of this resolution.

Marianne Alto has been instrumental in bringing this resolution to the council, and getting it passed. Do write to thank her and congratulate her for her efforts.

Thanks to the tireless people at CUPE Water Watch, who stand up for the rights of our public workers everyday, and who we worked with on this resolution.

With this decision, the City of Victoria resolved to declare water a human right and guarantee access for all independent of money, declared to further restrict and ban the sale of bottled water in City facilities and events, and resolved to support public water infrastructure.

This is just the start. Stay tuned!
